No. 4/2025
March 9, 2025
On February 13th, the Federal Criminal Court in Argentina issued arrest warrants to prosecute 23 Myanmar military leaders and 2 civilian government leaders for genocide and crimes against humanity against the Rohingya people. The Blood Money Campaign welcomes this action as a step towards impartial justice.
Since 1978, the Rohingya people in Myanmar have faced genocide and crimes against humanity. These atrocities continued under the hybrid regime of the Thein Sein government in 2012. After the civilian government came to power, the most egregious acts of genocide occurred in 2016 and 2017. We believe that a civilian government must be able to protect its people under any circumstances, despite the constraints of Myanmar’s 2008 Constitution. However, documented records provide clear evidence that such protection was not provided.
Therefore, the Blood Money Campaign believes that the Argentine court, acting under universal jurisdiction, made an independent and impartial decision. It is our understanding that the recently issued arrest warrants are intended to bring specific individuals among the suspects to court for prosecution.
We urge the government of Argentina to promptly request Interpol’s collaboration in issuing red notices for these arrest warrants.
The Blood Money Campaign will continue to stand with the Rohingya people, who have suffered genocide, until justice is restored. We declare our commitment to stand united and in solidarity with the oppressed, and to proceed with cooperative action to restore justice for the ongoing crimes against humanity and war crimes committed by the terrorist junta against ethnic areas and people across Myanmar, including but not limited to any armed resistance groups.
