The Blood Money Campaign strongly welcomes AIRBUS, the European largest aerospace company, for divesting its investment and partnership with AviChina Industry & Technology Company Limited, a subsidiary of Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC), China’s state-owned, military-affiliated conglomerate specializing in aircraft manufacturing and defense technology, effective April 1 of this year.
This withdrawal by Airbus from its investment partnership with AviChina will have significant political backlash for the Myanmar military junta. It is a major embarrassment for AVIC, China’s state-owned company that supplies aircraft, weapons, and technology to the terrorist junta.
Furthermore, the collaboration between Airbus and AVIC will suffer severe consequences. This fact shows that the international community of integrity does not accept the crimes being committed by the military junta. Other international companies must also immediately cease any form of direct or indirect complicity or support for the terrorist junta that is committing war crimes.
Airbus’s decision to halt its investment in AviChina, the Chinese state-owned, which is a key enabler for the airstrikes carried out in the military junta’s campaign of terror, marks a major milestone achieved through the solidarity and unwavering commitment of the #AirBus2AirStrikes movement. This movement brought together revolutionary individuals and 361 organizations from both local and international communities despite the junta’s violence and oppression.
With deep respect, we record this with heartfelt joy, pride, and sincere gratitude. This is a people’s victory
achieved through the determined, tireless efforts and various forms of mobilization of the Resistance and Strike Forces, Human Rights and Research Organizations, Civil Society Groups across various sectors, Unions, LGBTIQ+ activists, Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), Women, Laborers and farmer collectives, individuals who joined the Civil Disobedience Movement (CDMers), Whistleblowers who were involved in the revolution from within the junta’s mechanism (Revolutionary Watermelon), and the Myanmar diaspora, including those based in the Netherlands and other countries.
Mulan, spokesperson for Blood Money Campaign, says:
“The terrorist military junta receives essential support from the Chinese state-owned companies AVIC and AviChina, enabling it to continue committing war crimes. Airbus must continue to stand firmly on business and human rights standards.
Currently, Airbus still engages in business ties and collaborations with AVIC in China, so Airbus must use the leverage over AVIC and continue pressure to halt its business with the Myanmar military junta.”
